Step by step

  1. 1Pick one exam or curriculum and go deep: SAT Math, AP Calc AB/BC, IB HL Math, GCSE Maths, or A-Level Further. Narrow specialization commands 30-50% higher rates.
  2. 2Work through the last 3 years of official past papers yourself. Track the 20 topics that show up most and build a mini-lesson for each.
  3. 3Set up a proper Zoom stand: laptop at eye height, a $30 document camera or an iPad + Apple Pencil in Notability for shared whiteboarding.
  4. 4List on Wyzant and Preply with a strong intro video. Also post once in one local school-parents Facebook group with a photo and clear pricing.
  5. 5Charge $50/hr the first 3 months to build reviews. After 5 five-star reviews, raise to $65, then $80 every 6 months if your calendar stays full.
  6. 6Run every first session as a free 20-minute diagnostic quiz. It builds trust with parents and lets you spot the fastest wins.
